SUN MICRO AIMS TO BRIDGE OPPORTUNITY DIVIDE

Recently in Krabi (Thailand) Focus on network innovation, adoption to monetisation, winning new customers and “bridging the opportunity divide from a technology standpoint” are part of the immediate agenda of Sun Microsystems India, which announced here on Tuesday the appointment of Anil Valluri as its new Vice-President and Managing Director.

Valluri takes over from Bhaskar Pramanik, who has become Corporate Vice-President, Volume Business, Sun Microsystems Inc.

In an interaction with newspersons here, Valluri said India was among the fastest-growing geographies in the world for Sun globally and the focus now was on winning new customers and facilitating adoption to monetisation. This would involve an “effective process that maximises lead creation by marketing and conversion to revenue by sales”. The idea also was to monetise by connecting the 11.5 million Solaris licences and connected customers with the company’s sales force.

Valluri said Sun India was focused on key verticals including telecommunications, financial services and insurance, retail and government. . Re-innovating partnering models to propel growth was also in the agenda.

Open source and interoperability would naturally continue to be important in the company’s scheme of things. “The challenge before us is to bridge the opportunity divide in the country from a technology standpoint. A slew of services are required to be given to people at the bottom of the pyramid. We must leverage technology to bridge the opportunity divide. This will be the biggest contribution of Sun in India”, Valluri said.

He added that it was also his vision to make Sun India the largest GEM (Geographically Established Market) in Sun’s global portfolio.
