A good opportunity awaits hardware, software and solution vendors with around a million small businesses in the country firming up plans to purchase PCs for the first time within the next 12 months.
India currently has around 2.6 million small businesses that do not own any computers.
These companies employ up to a maximum of 99 people. Over 90 per cent of them fall in the very small category and engage between one and nine employees.
According to a recent study conducted by the Access Markets International (AMI) Partners Inc, lack of awareness and education about the utility of computers was a major reason for the low usage of computers among these companies.
Most of them felt that computers were of no relevance to their lines of business.
However, the study states that the non-PC small businesses’ segment was growing fast and displaying a healthy economic trend, especially those in the retail and wholesale sector.
Some of them had begun to realise that computerisation and automation were necessary to manage rapid business growth.
