VMWARE BUYS TRANGO

The Hindu Business Line

VMware Inc, the biggest maker of programmes that let computers run multiple operating systems, bought closely held Trango Virtual Processors to gain technology that puts virtualisation software in mobile phones.

VMware, which made the acquisition last month, announced it in a statement on Monday, without giving details.

France-based Trango is one of three companies developing virtualisation software for phones, according to research firm Gartner Inc. The programmes allow handsets to run several operating systems at once.

The acquisition gives Palo Alto, California-based VMware a head start over Microsoft Corp and Oracle Corp. in a fast-growing part of the virtualisation market
