Global notebook manufacturer, Dell Inc is shifting its focus from the corporate customers to Indian retail consumers.
The company, which has a single retail outlet in Mumbai, is in talks to increase the number of retail stores across the country in partnership with Tata Croma. This initiative is to increase the retail outlets targeting the consumer segment. When contacted, Dell spokesperson declined to reveal the number of stores the vendor is targeting.
Michael Dell, chairman and CEO, Dell Inc. said that the company is now concentrating in the Indian consumer segment. “We have sold 30 million units in India so far, and is targeting ten-fold increase in sales by the year 2015. India is one of the key market for us as we are witnessing the fastest growth,” Dell said.
With the notebook market witnessing a positive growth, laptop manufacturers have started launching notebooks with added features and competitive price.
Paul Henri Ferrand, president for the Asia Pacific region, excluding China and Japan, said that the company is targeting $800 million in revenue in 2008. In the first quarter Dell earned revenue of $200million.
“We are optimistic to achieve revenue of $1 billion in 2009,” Ferrand said. The company is witnessing a revenue growth of 50 percent year-on-year in every quarter in the emerging markets. Dell claims to be the number one player in the commercial segment in India. The firm’s shipments in India increased 82 percent in the quarter, ending in August. The revenues grew by 63 percent.
The company on Wednesday launched its new range of Latitude and Dell Precision notebooks. Dell's re-engineered Latitude range offers light-weight models are tagged as ideal desktop replacements for high performance users with longer battery life of upto 19 hours.
Dell also launched a new community site called Digital Nomads on twitter.com, which is designed for people who like to stay connected whether at work or home.
