The communications and IT ministry would initiate the move for extension of Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) scheme.
A Raja, union minister for communications and IT, will meet the finance minister seeking extension in the STPI regime.
STPI scheme, which has been extended by the finance ministry in 2008 for one year, is slated to expire in March 2009. “We will pursue extension in the STPI scheme with the finance minister,” Raja said.
The Indian IT industry was disappointed after the interim budget did not hold anything for the industry. The ministry has set up a centre of e-governance in the capital under the national e-governance programme. The ministry is planning to roll out centres in major metros.
This project is under the national e-governance programme. Raja said out of the projected outlay of Rs 20,175 crore for the proposed 27 mission mode projects (MMPs), Rs 10,622 crore has been sanctioned for 16 MMPs. He said in the first phase the government would set up centres in major metros.
Jyotiraditya Scindia, minister of state for communications and IT, said the government has set up 25,195 common service centres (CSCs) across the country and another 10,000 CSCs would be set up. “We are targeting to complete the project of setting up one lakh CSCs by 2010,” he added.
