INTEL ALLOWS USE OF ATOM FOR EMBEDDED PRODUCTS

Intel has announced the availability of its Atom processor for use in embedded systems and products. This will see the chipmaker providing reference designs which can be used in various applications like handhelds, digital signages, medical systems, security applications among others.

Intel will also be providing seven-year lifecycle support for this platform. As part of the Indian platform enabling efforts, Intel has announced two platform reference designs which will find application in the handheld products and automated security surveillance systems.

According to Intel South Asia director (sales) R Ravichandran, the processors used in embedded systems will create a new category of products at the marketplace as well replace the existing ones with smaller form factor. Intel also showcased products developed by two companies based on the Atom processor platform which will be specifically used in the domestic market.
