WE WANT OUR SOLUTIONS TO HELP LOCAL MKT

Accenture Technology Labs, the research arm of the $23.4-billion IT services giant, is clear about its priorities: help the company grow its topline and employ innovation to reduce cost and improve quality.

Accenture Technology Labs - which has an R&D centre in Bangalore - is now keen on using this expertise for the Indian market, said its MD Lyle D Ginsburg in an interview.

Excerpts:

What has been the strategic focus of Accenture Technology Labs?

I think there has been a big shift in the past few years and we are much closer to the market now. Two of our major measurement metrics have been: how much are we doing to help our topline grow and second, how are we innovating to reduce costs and improve quality. We have targets for both. Accenture has a mandate to reduce costs by 30-50 percent over the next couple of years.

What are the key technology areas for the labs?

There are four big things: Internet computing or what is known as cloud computing, analytics and virtualisation, mobility and collaboration. Besides, we are interested in other influencers like cyber security and the technologies being used by new generation of workforce.

What has been the impact of the lab’s technology solutions?

Our feedback shows that we are getting about 5 percent improvement in terms of productivity at the early stages. At the same time, it has helped us win some large deals, which were largely driven by our solutions.

What has been Accenture’s experience with the Bangalore lab, which started two years ago?

It has been fantastic. It started from nothing and has now become a standard for our clients. The Bangalore lab is largely focused on developing solutions around system integration.

What are the future plans for the centre?

Till now, the lab has been balancing onshore-offshore activity and working on solutions applicable across our centres. Now, we are looking at how our solutions can help the local market, which is growing. Once the India market starts to grow more for us, our other labs will also be contributing in terms of technology solutions. Bangalore is the second largest location in terms of headcount and we are going to grow here disproportionately compared to the other locations
