What if IT professionals lose their jobs because of “performance issues” or lack of projects? Here is an opportunity for them to freelance their skills.

Startup firm 8K Miles has launched an e-sourcing platform that helps software developers to register and work on projects independently or as groups. The online ecosystem of verified professionals and companies enables outsourcing of software and related knowledge services completely over the Internet. Despite concerns of uncertainty and delay in project closures, most IT players are optimistic about future prospects mainly because of the enormous opportunities.

A vast pool of mid-tier companies with IT requirements is still untapped because of the lack of reach to outsourcing vendors. Such companies can list their project requirements on 8K Miles and developers can bid for the deals, said Suresh V Chari, founder and chief executive officer of the company.

The online model enables outcome-based pricing to mitigate risks. The company is targeting e-commerce sites, IT consulting and startup companies, which need no introduction to the advantages of outsourcing, he added. Moreover, the company offers a virtual computing environment, which enables developers to work on projects from remote locations with only a PC and an Internet connection. This also ensures security. All project details reside on the environment and cannot be copied out of the system. The company has tied up with leading cloud services providers such as Google, Azure and Amazon.
