STPI EXPECTS SOFTWARE EXPORTS TO GROW 32% FROM CHANDIGARH REGION

The Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) has projected software and services exports to grow at 32 % from Chandigarh, Mohali, Panchkula and neighbouring areas during the financial year 2008-09.

According to STPI based in Mohali, its units and special economic zones in this region will amount to exports of Rs 1,000 crore. In the previous fiscal, STPI units’ exports stood at Rs 682.67 crore, while SEZ units carried out exports to the tune of Rs 139.60 crore making a total of Rs 822.27 crore.

Talking to FE, Ajay P Shrivastava, joint director and centre head of STPI, Mohali said, “The growth in this region has been fuelled largely by the growth of small and medium enterprises (SMEs). This financial year, six new small and medium IT enterprises including OPK e Services Pvt. Ltd, Inteq Infocom Pvt. Ltd., Startup Farms (I) Pvt. Ltd, Agilyst Consulting Pvt. Ltd, Netsmartze Infotech (I) Pvt. Ltd and AAA Advantages Services have joined the bandwagon. SME sector will play a big role in achieving the growth of 32%”.

In 2007-08, IT units from Chandigarh registered exports of Rs 35,792.68 lakh, ITES contributed Rs 2156.22 lakh while SEZ recorded exports of Rs 13,960.00 lakh reaching a total of Rs 51,908.9 lakh. IT units based in Punjab made a contribution of Rs 9564.1 lakh while ITES units recorded exports to the tune of Rs 19,400.02 lakh making a total of Rs 28964.12 lakh. In Haryana, including Panchkula total exports were recorded at Rs 8227 lakh.

STPI is an autonomous society under the ministry of communications & information technology of the Central government and provides a conducive environment for the software exporting companies. More than 250 units are registered with STPI Mohali out of which around 135 units actively contribute to the exports. Besides, this region has manpower of 10,000 professionals in IT sector.
