Zensar Technologies, a provider of IT and BPO solutions, recently concluded a week-long campaign towards creating ecological sustainability as part of World Environment Day celebrations on June 5.

Ganesh Natarajan, vice chairman and chief executive officer, Zensar, who also chairs the ‘green initiatives’ at NASSCOM, said, “Sustainable development is the need of the hour and as responsible members of the industry, it is essential for all of us to contribute towards the cause. We are taking every step towards creating a green organisation through various initiatives and working on a number of customer projects giving them energy-efficient solutions such as server virtualisation.”

The company has created a five-point green agenda to reduce carbon footprint, Natarajan said. This includes aspects such as awareness, conservation, reduce-recycle-reuse, green IT and waste management. The agenda aims at encouraging Zensar employees, others in the IT industry and the community at large to adopt a ‘green’ lifestyle, he said.

As part of the ‘green week’ celebrations, the company has been holding sessions for employees on various environmental issues, ranging from global warming to waste management. Zensar, in association with Alert (Association for Learning, Education and Training) recently hosted a cycle rally and a walkathon, which saw active participation from various IT companies and NGOs in the city.

The company has also developed an indigenous carbon calculator, which will gauge an individual’s carbon emissions.
