HELP BATTLE PROTECTIONISM, SIMPLIFY TAXES

Today, the Indian government is looking at inclusive growth.

Nasscom has expressed its desire to partner with the government in achieving this.

The IT-BPO industry, with its experience in building global solutions and processes, can play a major role in the development of India's education and healthcare sectors.

The government wants education and healthcare to reach the villages. Here, technology will play an important role, not just from the reach perspective, but also from fair price perspective.

Having said that, the main request of Nasscom is to extend the provision under sections 10A and 10B, under which existing units can continue to claim deductions.

If you have to encourage people in the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and BPO sector, then you need this extension.

In our proposal to the government, we have requested support through extension of fiscal benefits under section 10A and 10B to mitigate the impact of the recession and protectionist measures being adopted globally. This is particularly important for SMEs as it will facilitate their continued growth, provide parity with incentives under the SEZ and STPI schemes. It will also encourage industry to move into tier 2 and tier 3 cities.

Today, India has over a third of the world's BPO global outsourcing market but competing countries have also scaled up their BPO initiatives. In order that we remain the leader in global outsourcing, all stakeholders, including the government and industry, need to collectively address challenges such as lack of public services, cost of training and infrastructure.
