Sun Microsystems India has selected Redington (India) Ltd for the Sun Open Access Channel Program to capture untapped market and grow business, especially in the small and medium business segment.
The program gives resellers a simple and no-barrier-to-entry option to Sun’s product the company said in a statement. Redington is a distributor of IT products and provider of support services.
As part of the expanded relationship, Sun will partner with Redington’s wide network of resellers and also jointly invest in resources, training and go-to-market initiatives.
“There are about 25,000 SMB in India, and with our 18 associate partners we have been able to reach only 3000 companies. That leaves 22,000 companies untapped,” said Sudhir Nayar, Director-Partner Sales Organisation, Sun Microsystems India. “The focus would definitely be on the SMBs.”
Redington has access to a large number of resellers and has the capability to sign up these partners at a short notice. Sun is very bullish on this partnership, he added.
Nayar said in the last six months, the market and the economy had pushed enterprises to open source, which is less expensive. Open source can offer 40- 50 percent better returns compared with traditional technology, he added.
“India is going through a cycle and adoption is happening. Companies will come back to us for support and start using open source in mission critical applications,” Nayar said.
