DZensar Technologies will recruit 600 people by the end of 2009 calendar year. The decision assumes significance in the wake of major IT and ITeS companies declaring hiring freezes with some even rationalising headcount. The profitability of major IT firms in India has been hit as the economic slowdown stifles demand for products and services.
“We would be looking to recruit between 500 and 600 employees this year, over and above our present count of 5,000 across India,” said Prameela Kalive, VP and global head talent management, Zensar. However, she said recruitments in the company were not as much as in the previous year. In 2008, Zensar added 800 people to its employee list, which was 15 percent of its total workforce.
“Till last year, like most IT companies, the attrition rate in Zensar was very high. Thus most of the recruitments were attrition-linked, in order to make up for the loss of employees. But since attrition rates have come down significantly, obviously hiring will also be impacted,” Kalive explained.
The employees recruited would be mainly in the lower and middle management level. Kalive added that the meltdown had made the approach of IT companies very conservative but overall recruitments would not stop. “Though the phenomenal growth rates of 25 percent plus that IT companies witnessed till a year back has come down, companies continue to grow and there will be need for more employees,” she said.
Zensar Technologies is now looking to expand into newer verticals within the domestic market and generate business worth Rs 1 billion.
