PUDUCHERRY COMES OUT WITH VISION PLAN

With an agenda to transform Puducherry into a model state, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the Sriram Charitable Trust released a 'Vision 2025' document on Saturday. It is aimed at capturing the peoples’ voice by adopting a "bottom-up democracy" approach.

As many as 60 face-to-face interviews and 14 focus group discussions were conducted before finalising the vision document. Addressing the Vision Summit, CII Puducherry chairman and founder-CEO of Integra Software Services Sriram Subramanya, said, "The uniqueness about this vision document is that it will reflect the people’s views and aspirations in Union Territory of Puducherry. It is a result of broad-based consultations with all stakeholders across all the regions of the Union Territory - Pondicherry, Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam."

Subramanya highlighted key initiatives from the Vision document, to develop Puducherry in various ways which included making it a knowledge services hub by constructing large and mini SEZs and parks, introducing a governance review mechanism, having greater authority in taking administrative decisions and formulating a capacity building plan for the existing education institutions in Puducherry besides hosting institutions of global repute.
