The lingering controversy surrounding the Tata Motors small car project at Singur has not deterred the West Bengal government from going ahead with providing 230 acres of land to IT biggies like Wipro, Infosys and ITC Infotech.

The state's information and technology minister, Debesh Das, said that the situation at Singur was definitely scary for investors 'but none of the above companies have expressed a wish to pull out of the state.' Holding the same view, Sajjan Jindal of JSW Steel had also said earlier that the land controversy involving the Tata Motors project would not come in the way of the group's plan to set up an integrated steel plant which was to come up on 5,000 acres of land.

The IT minister said that both Wipro and Infosys would be given 90 acres each by the end of this year. As for the ITC Infotech, 50 acres would be given to it within this year. In all these cases, land would be purchased by a private party Aakash Nirman Private Limited. Although Wipro has a presence in the state at the Salt Lake Electronics Complex, Infosys and ITC Infotech would set up base in the state for the first time.
