Six Indian cities — Delhi, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Pune and Mumbai — have found place in the list of ‘Top eight Outsourcing Cities’ in the world.

Other than the Indian cities, Dublin in Ireland and Makati City in The Philippines are the other leading Global Outsourcing Cities as per the study conducted by CyberMedia’s Global Services and Tholons, a global investment advisory firm.

India’s representation in the top 50 Emerging Global Outsourcing cities has also grown to four from last year’s three, with the addition of Jaipur. The other three cities in the list include Kolkata, Chandigarh and Coimbatore.

Cebu City in The Philippines, Shanghai and Beijing in China lead the list of emerging global outsourcing cities. In order to set up an outsourcing centre, the choice of the right city has become more important than the choice of the country, the study said.

Attributes of a city like available resources — quality and type of work force, cost, available infrastructure and its long-term potential in fulfilling demand for specific services determine its attractiveness as an outsourcing centre.

Of the top 50 cities, 19 are from Asia and 13 from Central and Eastern Europe. Besides tier-1 Asian cities, outsourcing centres are being set up in many tier II and tier III cities.

China has six cities in the list of top 50 emerging cities for global outsourcing list. With a supportive government and favourable outsourcing conditions, China’s outsourcing industry is set to flourish further. Some new Chinese cities might make an entry into the list next year or some of the top emerging cities might move to the top outsourcing cities’ list, said the study.

However, six cities — Perth in Australia, Baguio City in The Philippines, Leeds in the UK, Birmingham and Oklahoma City in the US and Juarez in Mexico—which were there in last year’s list have not made it this year.

The study says the choice of the city has become more important than the choice of the country to set up an outsourcing center, with factors such quality of workforce and infrastructure determining its attractiveness.
