Six Tata Group companies figure in the list of Boston Consulting Group's 100 New Global Challengers.
Tata Chemicals is the new entrant into the annual list, while Tata Motors, Tata Steel, Tata Consultancy Services, Tata Communications and Tata Tea are regulars since 2006, the year BCG brought out the report for the first time.
BCG studied 3,000 companies from Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, CIS, the Middle East and Latin America to prepare the list based on their size and financials among others.
"The 2009 BCG 100 New Global Challengers are actively expanding their businesses overseas and accessing global markets. They are joining in the ranks of the multinational elite and shaking up the traditional world order," BCG's Partner & Director Arindam Bhattacharya said here today.
Apart from Tata Chemicals, Vijay Mallya's United Spirits and Anil Agarwal's Vedanta Resources figure in the list as new entrants, while Satyam, Ranbaxy and Cipla dropped out.
Refering to Satyam, Bhattacharya claimed that the list had been prepared in November last year, well before its Chairman B Ramalinga Raju's confession of misappropriation of funds.
"Satyam was lagging behind compared to its peers on various parameters," he said.
