Samsung Electronics says that the company expects to provide Mobile WiMAX technologies to Canada and several South American countries following its successful deployment in the United States.
Woonsub Kim, Executive Vice President and head of Telecommunication Systems Division of Samsung Electronics, said “North American Mobile WiMAX business gets on the right track with collaborations of industry top-tier investors. I believe that Mobile WiMAX is the best available service also in Latin America, which is sparsely populated in many mountainous areas and small islands.”
“We are looking at the opportunities to bring mobile WiMAX services in Canada and some Latin American countries and hope to conclude some of the deals by end of this year.” He continued with strong confidence.
Samsung launched the world’s first commercial services in Korea in June 2006, and is currently doing business with 23 major operators in 19 countries all over the world, including Clearwire in US, UQ Communications in Japan and Yota in Russia. Clearwire recently disclosed a rollout plan to bring Mobile WiMAX to 80 U.S cities covering 120 million people by 2010, UQ Communication announced to cover more than 90% of population by 2013 and Yota aims to expand service areas to 40 cities by 2012
