Writer, producer, creative director and president of Los Angeles-based PCB Productions, Keith Arem, famous for his video games on films like Spiderman and Lord of the Rings, was in India this month to look for opportunities to produce a video game in India that he will direct. He is also looking to set up a motion capture studio and animation division for gaming in India with prominent producers and animation companies. Besides, he had a feel of the mobile market in India. He looks at using mobile gaming as a component to supplement major Bollywood releases, just like the way Hollywood releases movies and games simultaneously.

Excerpts from an interview:

What brings you to India?

I am in India to look at the Indian market from a creative and talent standpoint. I am also here to look at the market. There are many firms in the US, including mine, developing videogames on motion pictures. The audience here is one of the largest in the world. There are 300 million cellphone users. The music industry is growing. The film industry is the largest in the world. That’s the recipe for a fantastic combination to create interactive content, especially mobile.

Is our mobile market ready for such high-end gadget use?

Yes, the mobile market is ready for high quality interactive content. But there are not many game developers in the mobile market and that’s one of the things we are focusing on.

You want to set up a game developer unit here?

We are looking at upcoming properties in the film space and we’ll use our experience to develop interactive content in the mobile space.

Who all are you talking to in India?

I have had discussions with creative and marketing people, as well as with content producers. Over the last 10 days I have tried to pack in as many meetings as possible to understand the culture, the people and the talent. There are not many people in India that are directing the content.
