BSNL, C&W INK NETWORK SHARING DEAL

Public sector telco giant Bharat Sanchar Nigam (BSNL) has inked an agreement with Cable &Wireless India to offer managed network services (MNS) in a bid to boost revenues from corporates and leverage its vast network spread across the country.

ET had first reported on August 15 BSNL’s plans to enter the MNS space. “BSNL is focusing on broadband, network monitoring and managing MPLS networks for big corporates as the next big growth area. We have plans to invest roughly $10-billion on network expansion over the next three years, It is therefore important for us to partner with a leading and trusted telecom provider such as Cable &Wireless, who have one of the most resilient network infrastructures available” BSNL CMD Kuldeep Goyal said in a statement in Mumbai. Managed network services typically include voice/data integration services, virtual private network (VPN) services, network management, performance management, guaranteed service levels, fault management, change management, configuration management, security (firewalls), application outsourcing and data centre services.

The companies will offer each other a full suite of these telecom services besides basic, leased line and local lead services on a preferred client basis.

“We intend to be the first customer-defined communications services business. Our prime focus is to understand what our customers’ business priorities are - and how we, as a partner, can help achieve them. Our new relationship with BSNL will enable us to have a laser focus on identifying and delivering a range of services to our customers in India,” said C&W India MD Sunanda Das said. C&W has an ILD and NLD license in India.
