Novell, the second biggest Linux software maker, plans to become profitable by doing more work out of its research centre in Bangalore, a company official said on Wednesday. Novell, which reported a lower net loss of $9 million for FY08 against $44 million in FY07 believes that Bangalore centre will play a crucial role in the company’s path to profitability.

“We continue to look for gaining efficiencies and India is a efficient organisation for us....it will help us improve our profitability,” said Dana Russell, chief financial officer, Novell. Novell’s Bangalore development centre was established over two decades ago-one of its largest such units outside the United States for Novell.
