The first Android phone might fail to spell ‘Magic’

Indian customers might miss Google’s application store on the HTC Android handset ‘Magic’. The much talked about Google Android phone, which was launched by Taiwanese handset maker HTC on Tuesday, is unlikely to support the Android Market — Google application store.

Android is an operating system for mobile phones, developed by Google

Similar to the App Store on the iPhone OS, the Android Market is a catalogue of applications, which can be downloaded and installed on the phone. Initially applications were free where supported, paid applications have been available since February 2009. Handset manufacturers ASUS, Huawei, Sony Ericsson, Motorola, Samsung and HTC have partnered together under the open handset alliance to bring in devices on the Android platform

Ajay Sharma, country head, HTC India, said the handset maker is in discussions on offering Google application store. “Negotiations are still on the launch, and we will not be able to share a date on the launch,” he said.
