Hyderabad-based Tanla Solutions, a telecom infrastructure provider, has partnered with Mahanagar Telephone Nigam (MTNL) to roll out third generation (3G) value added services in New Delhi. MTNL will launch 3G services in the capital on Thursday.

Tanla is also in talks with other telecom companies for offering similar services in 3G. “Tanla is the first Indian company to provide 3G products and services to a telecom company. We are also looking at partnering with other telcos as 3G roll out gives us a huge opportunity in India,” said Sriram VS, vice-president (sales & operations) Tanla Solutions.

3G refers to the third generation of developments in wireless technology.

It is a collective term for the new communication procedures, standards and devices that will improve the speed and quality of services on mobiles.

The Rs 476.8 crore company currently gets 5% of its revenue from the domestic market and in two years, it expects the domestic market share to go up to about 15-20%.

According to Sriram, the company is yet to finalise revenuesharing details with MTNL. “We are also looking at extending the partnership to offer 3G services in Mumbai as well,” he said. As part of the tie-up, Tanla offers four products to BSNL phone-users. “We have a full-fledged video portal, where customers access services related to music, entertainment, movies and astrology,” he said. Tanla also offers a video alert service, by which customers can get alerts on latest news and daily events. “We also have a video SMS product helping peer-to-peer messaging of video. Besides, our video outbound dialing product helps the operator to launch promotions, brand building campaigns and other enterprise marketing services,” he said.

Tanla also has tied up with content providers including news and sports channel to offer these products and services. “We are also looking at expanding our content-related partnership to include more services like travel and living, health and fitness, yoga and recipes. We are also planning to have a separate news service for mobile customers with the help of content providers,” he said.

According to him, the global slowdown has not impacted the company’s revenue flow. “In most developed markets telcos have recorded 30-25% growth in data and messaging services. Though their voice revenue are coming down, we have not felt the impact so far,” he said.”
