IT, BPO firms postpone events

With the city witnessing five swine flu fatalities, the IT-BPO sectors too are taking no chances and cancelling their events.

NASSCOM has postponed its two-day global engineering summit, which was to be held in the city on August 18 and 19. Around 300 people from across the country and abroad`d were expected to attend the summit. According to a press note from NASSCOM, the event is being rescheduled following the government decision to shut down schools, colleges, multiplexes and so on. It will now be held in November, the note said.

Many companies have issued directives and those who have even the slightest fever and cough symptoms have been asked to work from home, while others are spreading awareness among employees about swine flu through office email. An IBM employee said FAQs on swine flu and updates on preventive measures are being given to personnel.
