Global telecom operator AT&T unveiled its first data centre in India's silicon hub to meet the growing demand for IT infrastructure management services from multinational company (MNC) customers, the company said Thursday.
As part of its $1-billion global network and portfolio investment plan for this year, the Bangalore facility will have access to AT&T's integrated managed hosting, application and networking services to support data and e-commerce needs of its MNC customers in the sub-continent.
The India centre is protected from intrusion and failure with multi-layered security, failsafe redundancy and rapid response recovery measures, which are in line with its other global data centres, the Indian subsidiary of the US firm said in a statement here.
"The Bangalore centre underscores our commitment to the expanding telecom sector in India and highlights the growing demand in this market from Indian and global enterprises," AT&T India chief executive Gopi Gopinath said.
The new facility is connected to AT&T's global multi-protocol label switching (MPLS) backbone to offer hosting solutions. Among its features is greater agility for real-time changes to IT environments, more control to extend applications to the customer's premises or to other data centres and the ability to include "on network" capabilities in a customer solution.
"The centre's synaptic hosting platform creates a virtual infrastructure that lets customers add computing capacity, bandwidth and storage space as needed in order to use applications and services delivered from the network cloud. The platform also allows customers to adjust capacity while paying only for the amount used," Gopinath said.
AT&T India secured national long distance and international long distance licenses Oct 2006 and began commercial services early 2007.
