TECH PARK BOUNCES BACK WITH MAJOR EXPANSION PLANS

The Ranchi Software Technology Park of India (STPI) has bounced back and how. With existing facilities booked by visiting software firms and BPOs, it is looking to expand by developing an area of around 5,000sqft near its current set up at the Namkum industrial area.

STPI authorities have approached the state IT department to help expand its infrastructure. As of now, STPI needs to develop about 200 ready-to-use workstations in the 5,000-sqft plot for BPO and software firms who are keen to set up shop here.

The Telegraph had reported on September 21 how Ranchi STPI had been going through a lean patch in the last few months with several companies deciding to wind up operations. And in a bid to stem the tide, STPI had decided to cut down on user charges. STPI offers incubation facilities in the form of an air-conditioned environment with ready-to-use workstations (with computers, broadband Internet and 24-hour power back-up). If the going rate per workstation per month was Rs 3,000, it was slashed to Rs 2,000 whereby the state government and STPI would share the subsidy of Rs 1,000 equally. The moved worked. “We have 120 such workstations. All of them are now occupied by software firms like Scorpion Tel Tech Inc., Vidushu Infotech, Mica Software and Educom among others,” said Siddharth Rai, the assistant director of STPI, Ranchi.

He felt it was time the state government paid attention to the sector as things were looking up. Among the many companies who have shown interest in coming to Ranchi are Surya Infotech, Nath Corp. and the Bangalore-based Xiphias Software Technologies.

“We will continue registering new software companies at the software park. In the meantime, we are requesting the state IT department to develop about 5,000sqft into a more workable area near the STPI unit at Namkum. We will then be able to house more BPO and software units,” Rai said.

State IT secretary P.K. Jojoria, who took over recently from R.S.Sharma, has already been apprised.
